Vocabulary words




DNA - also known as deoxynucleic acid is the blueprint of all human beings. Contains genetic information that directs the biological actibity inside the nucleus of a eukaryotic cell.



Mitosis - is how cells divide to form new cells. Also known as cell division.




Chromosomes - made of molecules of DNA and proteins called histones. There are only 46 chromosomes in cell's nuclei.




Genes - functional units of DNA that determine a particular trait or character. (found in chromosomes) determines for example the color of your hair, how tall you will grow or the color of your eyes.




Cells - are the basic unit of life which all living things are made up of.




Nucleus - were all DNA is kept in eukaryotic cells.

Double Helix - the structure of a DNA model
Meiosis - A special form of cellular division that produces daughter cells with half the numberf of chromosomes as the original parent cells.
